CollAction, Social Entrepreneurship & Design, 2021–2023

CollAction is an Amsterdam-based Public Benefit Organisation (ANBI Stichting). We are building a crowdacting platform to solve collective action problems. Our focus is on sustainability-related issues.

When me and two friends - Tom Siebring and Tom Tetteroo - took over the project from the previous team, it had been put on hold. In just five months, we grew the team from three to more than 20 volunteers from across the globe.

To ensure accessibility and ease of contribution, we developed CollAction as an open-source project. Given that our team consisted solely of volunteers, we prioritized simplicity in our approach: We chose to build the platform using two widely adopted frameworks—Google’s Material Design and Flutter—which allowed contributors to seamlessly make meaningful contributions to the project.

We ran our pilot CrowdAction in collaboration with ASML, The Netherland's biggest company. ASML's Green Team approached us to help facilitate a company-wide Veganuary. Participants could sign up and mark their individual commitments for the month of January via the CollAction app. To enrich the challenge for its participants, we organized a cooking workshop and deals with local, sustainable restaurants.

“CollAction helped us greatly to set up Veganuary internally by arranging a cooking workshop, promotions from vegan restaurants, and by tracking our impact. We had a fun and impactful collaborative challenge!”

The early stages of product development are where I thrive most, turning uncertainty into well-designed, scalable solutions.

I work with companies across industries—from banking to streaming—at every stage of the product lifecycle, whether it’s building products from the ground up, maintaining and improving existing systems, or refining solutions through deep user research.
